Memorial Service for my Dad


Just a quick post to let you know that there will be a memorial service for my Dad on Sunday, March 15 at 4:00 pm at Westside Church of Christ. All are welcome. We appreciate your prayers.

Dear Josh -

You and your family have my deepest condolences in the death of your dad. I lost my dad to liver cancer several years ago (it was caused by a bad blood transfusion when he had had by-pass surgery).

Like with your dad, mine was at home and I was there with him and my mom when he died and it was a tremendous blessing for us to be there together.

My heart, love and prayers go out to you all in this time of change in your family. Your dad is now asleep with God watching over him until the Resurrection of us all.

Josh, you did an excellent job at the memorial yesterday. I really liked your comments about the trust fund and hope that you'll consider posting it (or at least excerpts) here for those who couldn't attend (and those of us who did). Peace and blessings to your family this week and always!

My prayers were there for you, but they are still there today. The next few weeks and months will be tough, brother, so the prayers will be lifted up now more than ever. How great is our God!

So sorry to hear about your dad, though we do rejoice in the promises of our REAL life in our forever home. I've not been by your blog in a while so I'm just now (3/18) learning of your dad's death. Even from what little I know about him, it must have been quite a celebration of God's love and grace!!

My oldest starts in his first official hoops league next month. They had evaluations last week. It was a great Dad moment that I feel like sharing in the off chance I haven’t already told you this story. ( WARNING : this post contains obnoxious parental bragging. Business in Medford

I’m in beautiful Medford, Or this week taking depositions. More on that in a moment. City snobs like me from the “big city” up in Portland often look down our noses at the smaller, less urbanely refined towns and cities in our fair state and their inhabitants. The thing is, you actually have to put some effort into finding a really crummy part of Oregon. They’re out there (I will not name names), but they are pretty rare and Medford isn’t one of them. Sure it sounds like they named the town after a muppet and sure it doesn’t have quite the charm or outside appeal of neighboring Ashland, but Medford’s a pretty nice town. Beautiful surrounding area, state of the art medical facilities, enough “city” to have some good places to eat and shop, but small enough to still have some quaint charm. Overall, it’s pretty nice and certainly not a bad place to spend a few days, or raise a family or ride an ATV while shooting varmints with a hand gun…or so I’m told. My point is, I like Medford....

Pepperdine

Greetings all in blogland. I just got a last minute invitation to go down and speak at the Pepperdine Lectures. I now have one day to come up with a class title and about 2 weeks to come up with a class!!! Yikes. This much I know, it is going to center around our experience up here at Westside putting together our own worship CD and will seek to encourage others to try the whole thing themselves. Past that, I’m not sure yet. Since I started writing songs, I have had several powerful revelations. Perhaps the most significant is that writing songs is not as hard as you think. If you are a Christian, there is power and beauty in your faith. All you really have to do is find a way to articulate that power in your own words (it helps of some of them rhyme) and then set it to music. Still sound hard? I really don’t think it is.
